Consultations are by appointment only. Appointments are usually 10 minutes long. Urgent appointments are available during surgery hours.

Pre-bookable appointments can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance with a doctor of your choice. This type of appointment may be made with reception, by phone, in person or online if you are registered for on line services.

Telephone Appointments

You can book a telephone consultation for advice if you feel that your issue can be dealt with over the telephone. This is not always with the doctor of your choice and is available during surgery hours.

After 5pm and weekends

If you struggle to get an appointment after work or at weekends, extended hours appointments are available. These clinics run from 5pm week nights and from 9am Saturdays. 

The enhaced access service is held at Irwell Medical Practice, Bacup and Ilex View Medical Practice, Rawtenstall  – please ask at reception for more details and how to book an appointment.

Consultations are normally carried out in the surgery but if you are too ill to come to the surgery a home visit can be requested.

A request for a home visit will be assessed by a doctor who will decide on the best way of dealing with your problem.

Requests for home visits should normally be made before 10.00am.

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient.

If you fail to notify the practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
